Tableau 3 measures on same axis

The below chart is designed on Tableau and i want to replicate this chart in Power BI. Can someone sugest me how to achieve this on Power BI. Need to display them as bars based on one dimension and further want to segregate these bars in color based on one dimension Lane. Something like the one that you showed is directly not possible i. Similar to the way in tableau. But you can achieve it using three different chart one below the other with the same category axis column in all the 3 visuals.

It also requires some formatting modifications like hiding x axis in the visuals wherever not required and displaying Y Axis Title in the visuals and other minor formatting changes as per your need. Essentially after making all the changes, your visual should look like the one below You can also do much more modifications, if possible to make it look closer to your existing visual in Tableau. This Approach will be best if there is always data available for all the entries in your category.

Otherwise says 2 of the charts have dta and one does not have data, the categories might mismatch. We want all the bars in single chart. Tableau has this functionality but unfortunately it seems powerbi lacks this. The time has come: We are finally able to share more details on the brand-new ranks coming to the Power BI Community!

How can I do that? Re: Is there a way to display three graphs in one view. So it seems that your measure values and names will be greyed out on your secondary data source, but you can still drag the measures from both into your Measure Values box just use measure values from your primary data source.

Are you looking for something like this?

Notice that three of the measures are from my secondary data source and the other 2 are from the primary. This does not allows me to set my third measure to show as shape, if I change to shape then my Line disappears and then it shows as shape Second image. Become a Viz Whiz on the Forums! If not, can you provide a workbook or at least a screenshot? Yes exactly. But my measure values are grayed out and I am using 2 data sources. I hope this is what you are upto Three Measure as Dual Chart. Go to original post. Retrieving dataDoes anyone know how to get all three measures in my workbook forecast, actuals, budget onto one graph on budget 2 tab? Gant bars for the forecast and budget, bars for the actuals.

The best way is to use a reference line. As you can see I'be brought the Budget into the detail shelf for the 2nd chart. This allows me to access it when creating a reference line. You can create as many reference lines as you want, so you could in fact just plot the 1st one as Bar, and have the other 2 as reference lines. Here's an alternative view that is a bit closer to what you had originally, which uses Measure Values for one axis with a bar mark type, and SUM Budget is on the secondary axis with a Gantt mark type you could use Circle or Shape here effectively also.

Using that same type of logic, we can use SUM Actuals with a Bar mark type, and Measure Values with a Gantt mark type to achieve what I believe you were originally hoping for:.

Version 8. We are currently limited to a single or "dual axis" -- we cannot combine 3 individual measure pills, but we can use Measure Values as a shortcut pill for two or more measures, with the same mark type, in a situation like this.

I hope this helps! Simon, this is super helpful, thank you!

Can you give me step-by-step directions on how you did this so that I can replicate it in the future? Thanks again! If you look at the attached, I've done both Forecast and Budget as reference lines. Although as Matthew points out if you do dual axis your chart, you need to synchronize the axis else the reference lines will bee misleading. I've added Actual to the row shelf, and the dragged both Forecast and Budget to the detail shelf this gives me access to them in the reference line set up.

I then right click on the Axis and select 'add reference line', which is set up as per the below image if I were to set the scope to Table it would give one reference line across all the rows, if you had Category and then SubCategory in the rows, 'Pane' would give a reference lines across each Category, and by Cell as I've done here gives me one for each row.

I've then changed the label to 'custom' and typed in Budget. I've then just repeated this for forecast I chose to leave the label off this one, as it overlapped the Budget name.

I've then also as I'm stuck on a train with time to kill!! Hope this helps, and there is also full descriptions of all the options on reference lines and bands on the Knowledge Base or the On Demand tutorial videos.

Linked 3. Related 0. Hot Network Questions.Dual Axis refers to the fact that we have two axes over the same graph. An axis is a very important component of any graph, and it represents the quantitative measure based on which visualization is created. In some situations, we may intend to analyze multiple measures simultaneously.

Having them plot as different graphs may not be that insightful and deriving suitable meaning out of the insights may not be easy. Dual-axis overcomes these issues owing to its ability to have graphs for multiple measures over the same plot. Tableau allows applying Dual-axis in a very easy manner.

3 Ways to Use Dual-Axis Combination Charts in Tableau

In order to understand how Dual-axis can be applied, and other features related to it, we shall go through the following demonstration. The dataset used here contains daily temperature and precipitation data for a month.

Using the concept of dual-axis we will try to study the daily pattern for temperature and precipitation. This can be accomplished using a dual-axis. This is as described in the following section. Step 1: First load the requisite dataset into Tableau.

Step 2: Select the requisite data source type. In this case, it is Microsoft Excel. This is as shown below. Examine the data prior to proceeding to the analysis. The following screenshot shows this.

Step 4: Moving to the sheet tab, one can find the dimensions and the measures present in the requisite sections as shown below. Step 5: First drag the Date dimension into the Columns region or just double click over it. As shown in the following screenshot, automatically, the YEAR function gets applied over the Date dimension.

Step 6: We want the graph to be generated day wise. So, in order to change the automatically applied YEAR function, as shown above, click on the drop-down menu of the Date dimension in the Columns region.

Step 7: When Day function gets applied, as shown in the following screenshot, day-wise data appears. Just double click over them, and we get a table giving date wise values for the two measures. This is as shown in the below screenshot. Step Following the above steps result in the generation of two horizontal bar graphs, as shown in the following screenshot.

Step Studying the bar graphs in the above screenshot is difficult. The vertical graphs are as shown below. Now, the graphs present the insights much better. Step Bar graphs, as shown above, allow better insight capturing. However, in order to analyze temperature vs precipitation trends, the line chart is the most effective. We shall convert both the horizontal charts into line charts.

This is simple. The goal is to see in the same figure 3 different measurement data, the 3 measurement data measure the same, ie measuring money. We now know how to make a graph in which we can add 2 measures, but we would like to add a third, and that this was in line format. Any ideas on this? Below is a screenshot attached an extract of example for you to understand what the problem is and we do not see a solution.

The trick is to combine the bars in the measure values and create a line on a seperate row.

Then select dual Axis and it will combine the items. First, thank all the examples shown by all. He had already reached these conclusions but not exactly what we want to implement solution, because looking at our picture measure 1 and measure 2 are combined into a double axis and the third measure would be superimposed on each other.

In the examples we have seen, measure 1 and 2 are not combined in one axis, just show the value of each matter, I do not know if I explained well, sorry. Alejandro Olmo, Any updates?

I have tested it, but do not just correctly out the measures. Here's an example of what is happening, you see, the first step is shown well in the graph, but the second measure, should be proportional to its value and is not doing well.

As per my analysis, we have to define manually which columns is first then second it means, in the attached document I have placed Sales. Profit, Orders. Here Always Orders quantity is least put of the the 3 measuresProfit is lesser than Sales, Sales is top. Right Kumar, I understand what you comment and give as valid;-D. But what I wanted to comment, is that visual effects, in your example, sales of the "Central" region really do not add K, 98K really are and if we look at the sidebar gives the impression that they are more sales should.

Any way to put the measured values next to each other? Its too hard to understand smaller values on the same axis when they are stacked. Can you tell me how can I make bars graphs show in a Vertical manner.

Alsothere are three measures in first bar and 2 measures for other two bars respectively. Become a Viz Whiz on the Forums! Support the Community and master Tableau.
